WELCOME OCTOBER!

Welcome October, a month of great changes, bringing with it a farewell to summer, the fall of the leaves and sometimes a touch of nostalgia. This is what happens in much of Europe (especially in the north), but in Mallorca, thanks to its location, the Mediterranean Sea and the sun, autumn can wait, giving us wonderful days by the sea in swimwear.

For those who have the chance to spend some days in Mallorca outside the high season, the island shows itself in all its splendor: not only because the beaches are not crowded, it’s easier to find a table at a restaurant or a free taxi on the street, but also for the magnificent colors with which the island is reborn. With the first rains, the Serra de Tramuntana becomes greener with reddish shades, the sky grows more intense, and the sea returns to its crystalline state. A spectacle of nature that is hard to ignore.

October takes its name from the Latin octōber, meaning "eighth", and much of its symbolism is linked to this number. In Western tradition, the number 8 represents perfection, cosmic balance, and infinity. The name comes from the ancient Roman calendar, which began in March, making October the eighth month of the year. Although it is now the tenth, the name has remained in use, preserving its original meaning.

October is also known as the “wine month” because it coincides with the grape harvest season, when grapes reach full maturity, marking the end of a production cycle. After the harvest, in many Mediterranean countries, the season is celebrated with tastings, meetings with producers, and the promotion of local products — as it happens in many of the more than 70 wineries spread across the island.

Next Tuesday, October 7th, after sunset, don’t forget to look up to the sky for the last SUPERMOON of 2025: it will appear full, 13% larger and 22% brighter, just before the change to winter time on the last weekend of the month, when nights will grow longer and broader constellations will become visible.

Our advice: enjoy the fresh air, the greenery of nature, the blue of the sea, the moon, the sky, and the stars — perhaps with a glass of MX ∞, the Gran Reserva bottle dedicated to the 80 years of Don Martín Xamena. And since the lemniscate “∞” is an inverted 8, we return to October as a month that always brings profound meanings and great changes.
