EVERYTHING CHANGES, NOTHING CHANGES
Today’s title is a simplified echo of an iconic line from the 1958 novel The Leopard (Il Gattopardo):
“If we want things to stay as they are, everything must change.”
This passage likely reflects the mindset of its author, Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, who lived in a Sicily marked by noble decline — resistant to change and skeptical of progress.
I’ve always admired those who, in a volatile, fast-moving, ever-changing world, choose to remain true to themselves — those who don’t follow fleeting trends, who stay grounded even as change swirls around them, holding firm to their values and identity.
That’s one reason why so many of us — the nostalgic — continue to cherish historic shops: places of quiet resistance and resilience that experience change without surrendering to it. I remember, with longing, the historic center of Rome when it still had an artisanal soul rather than just a tourist one. Streets bore the names of old trades: Via degli Impagliatori (chair caners), where woven straw products were crafted; or Via dei Baullari (trunk makers), though the artisans had long vanished. So too had the blacksmiths of Via dei Chiavari.
And yet, some places held on. The old delicatessen Franchi refused culinary gimmicks and retained its 1950s aesthetic. The butcher shop Feroci proudly kept its marble counters. Alfredo’s Restaurant still served its famous fettuccine with waiters in bow ties, using the same recipe and format for over a century. I’ve always been drawn to these places — loyal to their beginnings.
The first time I stepped into Hotel BonSol, I felt the same way: it was like entering a place suspended in time — well cared for, but unchanged since the day it opened. A classic hotel unafraid of not changing, even as the world around it raced forward. While others built upwards, expanding rooms and spaces into cubes of modernity, reshaping lobbies with contemporary design, BonSol chose to stand still — making its stability and timelessness its strength.
For this — and many other reasons — we at BonSoul are proud to collaborate with small and large artisan brands that share this rare and fading authenticity, and who bet everything on it.
We feel deeply connected to this world: a shared story of excellence, craft, hospitality, and soul — one we will continue to tell, protect, and celebrate. That’s why we join forces to champion a common cause:
To show that for eternal nostalgics, for lovers of things made with care and devotion — the future is to return.
